"Skimmer" 42 Cutter design by Robert Perry
Recognized as a consummate blue water boat, the Valiant 42 has the capability to go wherever any competent sailor wishes to go. And for good reason. The 42 is a direct descendant of naval architect Bob Perrys seminal Valiant 40, but without some of the pitfalls of the earlier design. Most notably a production change that addressed the earlier model's hull blister issues. Built from 1992 through 2010, the Valiant 42 is a moderate weight sailboat and a reasonably good performer with a long, cutaway fin keel and a deep, skeg-hung rudder vs. the common full keel often designed into off-shore cruisers. It is stable/stiff and has an excellent righting capability if capsized. Best suited as a Bluewater cruising boat with a fuel capacity of 88 US gallons, it offers decent cruising range under power if needed. It also has very good water capacity of 88 US gallons and a Spectra water maker, so you'll need not worry about long voyages and the need to find a marina to take on water.
"Skimmer" is a two owner boat with the second owner implementing significant upgrades employing some of the region's most talented marine-based craftspeople. The list of improvements is exhaustive, with receipts totaling over $150,000. Stepping on the boat you immediately recognize the level of care this vessel has enjoyed throughout its life. That, coupled with many post factory upgrades, makes this a turnkey world cruiser.
